Meet Matt

My name is Matt Aymar. I was born and raised in St. Catharines, and I'm proud to be raising my family right here in Merritton.
As a husband, father, coach, and volunteer, I care deeply about the future of this community.
I'm running for City Council because I believe everybody should have the opportunity to build a life, raise a family, and age comfortably in the community they call home.
As a Public Health Professional with more than two decades of public service, I know that real leadership starts with listening.

That's why I'm committed to listening, showing up, and working with residents to help build a safer, more affordable, more vibrant Merritton.

Experience that matters

I have spent more than two decades working in public health and public policy, across both government and the not-for-profit sector, with a focus on building healthier, safer, and more connected communities.

Working in municipal government has also given me a firsthand understanding of how government works, how decisions get made, and how to to turn good ideas into practical action.

Rooted in Community

Over the years, I have coached with St. Catharines Minor Baseball at Community Park, volunteered with the Merritton Lions Club, and worked alongside community organizations supporting residents experiencing homelessness.

Like many families, much of our life revolves around Merritton's parks, trails, pool, library, local businesses, restaurants and community events.

Focused on our Future

As our city continues to grow and change, we need strong leadership to protect Merritton's unique character and a clear vision to prepare us for the future.

That means planning ahead for responsible growth, investing in the infrastructure and public spaces our community will need, building safer and more vibrant neighbourhoods, and making City Hall more responsive, accountable, and focused on results.
